Philippians Sermon & Discussion Series

Real Joy - To know Christ and to make Him known!

Life is filled with allurements that offer the promise of hope and fulfillment, but each of them comes with the dashing reality of empty promises that leave us discontented, dissatisfied, and unfulfilled.

Into this air of desperation, Paul speaks words of real hope when he declares, “I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:11–13). What was the source of Paul’s confident peace? How could he be so confident in his contentment? His hope and joy were in Jesus Christ.

Philippians is not a shallow letter filled with pithy statements designed to produce happiness. It is rather an unfolding of the hope that Paul has because of his intimate knowledge of Jesus Christ.

As we see Jesus for who He truly is, we will be able to express true worship and experience the fulfillment and purpose our hearts desire. True contentment will never be ours until we fill the emptiness of our lives with Jesus Christ.

When there is nothing left in this world to cling to, you must go outside this world and wrap your arms tight around He who suffered and died for us all. When Jesus is all that is left, all that is left is to cling to Jesus, but when we do, we will find real joy, joy that only comes through intimately knowing Him and is made full through making Him known!

Join us as we journey through Paul’s letter to the Philippian church in our Sunday morning worship service and in our Adult Bible Fellowship group discussions.
