The Singles’ ministry of Bethel Baptist Church extends to you a warm invitation to attend any and all of our Christian service and recreational activities. We provide teaching that will help you grow in your relationship with Christ, a variety of opportunities for you to serve Christ and advance His kingdom & godly Christian friendships that will enrich your life.
It is our desire to teach singles in America how to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Our Goal is that the singles of the greater Chicago area would be:
Converted by Christ (John 3:1-19; Acts 3:19; 16:30-31; Romans 3:24-26; 4:5; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5) – We must present the Gospel to singles and lead them into a genuine conversion experience.
Conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:28-29; II Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 4:13) – We must assist the spiritual growth of the newly saved through the study, teaching, application and obedience to the Scriptures.
Consecrated to Christ (Romans 6:13; 12:1-8; I Corinthians 12:4-7; Ephesians 4:1-16) – We must help in the discovery and use of spiritual giftedness and to help provide ministry opportunities to exercise these gifts.
Renowned author George Barna states in his book, Single Focus, “…America has five distinct singles groups: the never-been-married, the divorced, the widowed, single parents and the separated.” He goes on to state, “To think that all single adults are alike, and thus to relate to them in an identical manner, is a grievous mistake. But it is one often made as we lump unmarried people into a single, massive population.”
The Singles' ministry at BBC trys to address the heart needs of each of these five target groups that are underneath the general umbrella of Singles ministry. In order for our Singles’ ministry to fulfill its mission, it uses the following methods:
Fresh walk with the Savior – to provide an atmosphere where singles learn to grow in their love and obedience to Christ. Christ and His Word is to be at the center of all singles' functions (Colossians 1:18; 2:19; I Corinthians 10:31). One of the ways we seek to foster such a love for the Lord is through our weekly Sunday school class which meets at 9:45 am in Room 301. Here you will enjoy a class that possesses the feel of both the small group and traditional preaching style of learning God’s Word. In addition, you will also grow in your walk with the Lord through the annual Midwest Singles’ Conference that we have the privilege of hosting each August.
Field of service – to serve the Lord in His harvest (Jn. 4:35-38). Each month we have an activity called “Serving our Savior” (S.O.S). This will provide for you a variety of outlets with which to serve Christ. Some of the S.O.S. ministries have included: the Women’s Gospel League rescue mission in Chicago, shut-in visitation, nursing home worship service, and good old fashioned door to door soul-winning (Matthew 9:37-38).
Focus that is single – to teach singleness as a strength, not weakness. Singles are not to be sulking and souring while waiting for God to bring “the one,” but using their singleness to wholly serve the Lord (Matthew 6:22-23; I Corinthians 7:35).
Fun that is sanctified – to provide activities that are clean, fun, and a healthy outlet to release the pressures and anxieties life can bring. Each month we seek to have one Friday Focus, one Sunday night afterglow, and one major activity such as Laser Tag, Skiing, the Corn Maze, etc. (Proverbs 17:22).
Freedom that will not suffocate – to provide freedom to enjoy as many service and fun activities as one desires to participate in. The singles' calendar will be full, at the same time this is to be balanced with the fact that we do not want you to feel suffocated by too many things going on. (Proverbs 25:17)
