Alan Benson, Senior Pastor

Alan Benson has received his B.A. in Bible and a Master of Ministry degrees from Bob Jones University and Seminary. He has a Master of Divinity degree from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Ministry degree. He has served in pastoral roles including youth pastor, church planter and senior pastor.

Alan has a passion for the expository preaching and teaching of God's Word and constantly seeks to have a Biblical philosophy drive his approach to local church ministry. He and his wife, Michelle, have 4 daughters.


Mark Coleman, Deaf Ministry Pastor

Mark Coleman graduated from Bob Jones University with a B.A. in Sacred Music. For fifteen years he served as a church and Christian school music director in Twin Falls, Idaho and in 1990 became involved in his church’s deaf ministry. Mark studied American Sign Language and deaf culture at the College of Southern Idaho and worked at the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind as a dormitory supervisor.

In 1995, Mark came to Bethel Baptist Church to become the Deaf Ministry Pastor. He currently serves on the board of Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America and Silent Word Ministries International. Mark and his wife, Jan, have three adult daughters, two deaf sons-in-law, and five grandchildren.

Bob Cook, Assistant Pastor

After serving the Lord for many years as a layman, the Lord called Bob Cook into pastoral ministry. He received his seminary training from Bob Jones University and his desire is to see families come to Christ and believers grow in their Christlikeness.

Bob coordinates the adult education ministries at Bethel including the adult Sunday school and Schaumburg Bible Institute. He also directs the HomeBuilders ministry for young married couples and oversees the administrative aspects of Bethel Baptist Ministries. He and his wife Jean have three sons.

David Doiel, Discipleship Pastor

Dave Doiel was saved at the age of 23. He served as our Youth Pastor for two years and has been our Discipleship Pastor for the past eleven years. He has a B.S. Degree in Human and Family Resources from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Ministry degree from Northland International University. He has received experience in the field of counseling as a psychiatric technician, family liaison, and probation officer. Dave oversees the discipleship ministry which includes life-on-life individual discipleship and also oversees the SET FREE Addictions mentoring ministry. He currently teaches the Berean adult Sunday School class. Dave and his wife Tammy have five children: Kaylin, Karis, Kristiana, Joshua and Kiley.

Scott Mayer, Music Pastor

Scott Mayer completed bachelors and masters degrees in Church Music at Bob Jones University with proficiencies in piano and choral conducting. He also taught piano at the University while employed as a Graduate Assistant in the Division of Music. He has served as pianist and organist for evangelistic meetings throughout the United States, and his improvisational skills continue to be in great demand. He has been teaching private lessons and directing choirs and ensembles at Schaumburg Christian School since 1993 and was named Minister of Music at Bethel Baptist Church in 1999. He and his wife, Kathy, reside in Hanover Park. They were married in 1994 and have 4 boys.


Brandon Lowery, Youth Pastor

In December of 2014, Brandon joined the staff of Bethel Baptist Church as the youth pastor. Brandon is passionate about equipping, enabling, and encouraging the youth to grow in Christ-likeness, motivated by the love of God and a personal understanding of the blessings of salvation.

Brandon was not raised in a Christian home and suffered through much distress before being saved at the age of 30. Soon after, he began attending Bethel Baptist Church and surrendered his life to ministry. He attained a B.A. in Religion from Liberty University and an M.A. in Counseling Ministry from Wheaton Graduate School. During this time, Brandon and Christina, whom he met in the singles SS Class at Bethel, were married, started a family, and led multiple Adult Bible Studies and Sunday School meetings.

Brandon's broken past has given him the gifts of empathy and vision for struggling young people. Brandon's practical theology allows him to communicate with young people in a manner that exalts Christ in a conversationally and practically dynamic way.

Josh Plonk, Children's Pastor

Children have a special place in Josh’s heart. Since 2003, he has been overseeing the children's ministry at Bethel. God is allowing him to take part in helping kids mold their lives into the image of Christ. He received his B.A. in Practical Christian Training from Bob Jones University in 2002. Josh and Michelle were married in 2004 and God has blessed them with two sons.

Jim Toth, School Administrator

Jim Toth started working at Schaumburg Christian School (SCS) in 1990. Over the years Jim has taught Bible and Science in the Junior High and High School and has taught Physical Education from 1st to 10th grade. Jim has coached both varsity soccer and basketball along with serving as the schools athletic director. Jim served five years as the Dean of Students for SCS before taking over as the Administrator. Jim also serves as the Athletic Director of the Illinois Association of Christian Schools. For Bethel Baptist Church Jim serves as an adult Sunday School teacher teaching the Faithbuilders class. Jim is a 1986 graduate of SCS and has been involved with Bethel Baptist Church for over thirty years.
